If you feel that you can be part of this valuable program, below is listed several activities where you can join to help save or improve the lives of the people of Kikwit through PEF:

1.  SUPPORT FOR THE HEALTH CENTER – PEF

-To Mobilize Resources (financial, supplies, materials and equipment). There is a great need for medicine where 65% of the drugs are fake or counterfeit.

-Volunteer your time and talents or bring someone who would like to be involved in a short-term visit (to work) in Kikwit, DRC.

-Help or support someone (health professional or student) who would like to join the short-term program team (via a visit to Kikwit).

– Support our Diabetes and High Blood Pressure Clinics (by providing glucometers, test strips, lancets). We are in dire need of a DCA Vantage Analyzer for HbA1C, and a Multiparametric Analyzer for Biochemistry services.

-Support our Respiratory Diseases Clinics. There is a need for equipment and medicines; especially medicine for oxygen tanks and for suctioning machines (used in surgery and respiratory treatment).

-Support our OBGYN Clinic: Needs for ultrasound and obstetrical monitors

Support the clinic by sending or funding – A 40 kva to 45 kva Generator  or Solar Panel Kits

In Kikwit, the Societé Nationale d’ Electricité (SNEL), translated in English – National Society of Electricity runs electricity for only 6 to 8 hours per day. The majority of the people are forced to use generators to supplement power during periods when electricity is not available.

2. SUPPORT FOR TRAINING and CONTINUING EDUCATION

As written above, if you cannot travel to Kikwit, please pass the word on or support someone who can volunteer his/her time and talents.

-Support our Library and Internet Café by sending equipment (PC computers, laptop computers, printers, copier machines).

3. SUPPORT FOR MOSES PROJECT

            1. Join us by supporting and sponsoring the survival of these children (or just support one of them). Those two very dedicated young females from Switzerland have done a lot to support their school…., and by providing food (once a week) – but we need more supporters to contribute on a monthly basis.

As little as 35 to 40 US Dollars is enough to cover meals and health care for each child for a period of one month.

            2. Sewing room: Sewing machines, fabric, supplies, and cosmetology equipment (for hair care) is also needed for the host families of these children supported by the Moses Project.

            3. Need of a Playroom for the Moses Project: One of the major concerns for children in many developing countries, such as DRC, is availability of toys. Christmas time has been one of the most difficult periods for those little ones who have never experienced the joy of “Santa Clause”. Toys will be a welcome gift for those children and for other poor families in the city.

            4. SUPPORT FOR MASS EDUCATION THROUGH THE RADIO (Broadcasting)

Our weekly broadcasting program in reference to health education will be improved if we can benefit from your support and sponsorship (e.g., anew generator of 25 to 45 kva for the Radio Sango Malamu (RSM) and also Solar Panels.

-Equipment for the Radio Station with long range capabilities.

Using a generator, the Radio Station needs approximately 7 Liters of Gasoline per day with a total of 210 Liters or 55.5 Gallons to operate the facility. The total cost of fuel in Kikwit is about $380.00 per month. However, if 10 people can help by giving $38.00 per month – this will help RSM efficiently run its programs. In addition, Solar Panels will improve their management system.

5. PARTNERSHIP and MEDICAL EXCHANGE

PEF promotes a sustainable and rich program of mutual benefits between local medical students and health professionals from DRC with those coming from overseas.

The aim of this short term program is to help foreign medical students and health professionals get an insight into tropical medicine. The same time they will help Congolese students and health professionals (Doctors and Nurses) to learn new guidelines and gain more skills from update knowledge brought by those visiting.

PEF has learned a lot from the Belgian medical program named “Medecins Sans Vacances” (translated in English as Physicians without Holidays). Volunteers of different medical fields (physicians, nurses, and lab technicians…) come every six months to churches and hospitals (mostly Catholic Hospitals) to treat patients and offer continuing education to their counterparts (fellow health care providers) in DRC. This short term program (2 to 3 weeks) works effectively and has improved the quality of health services in those hospitals.

PEF has been blessed by visits from Dr. Jean Michel Bigler and nurses from Switzerland – but we would like to open and extend this program to U.S. Health Professionals and Medical Students. If you can volunteer your time and talents for those in need in Kikwit, please feel free to call our different contacts.
