Polyclinique Esperantia & Fraternité is part of FCD a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate poverty through sustainable development through community-based projects. Esperantia & Fraternité is one of those initiatives. It focuses on providing health care, training for medical and nursing students, preventing infectious diseases through the EPI program (enlarged program of immunization) and promoting positive health guidelines for the community.
Polyclinique Esperantia & Fraternité (PEF) was founded in 1998 by Dr. Mungala Kipasa. After Dr. Kipasa’s experience with fighting the Ebola Virus he realized that there was a need for him to share his training and knowledge with by helping the people of DRC. He attended Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine for two years prior to returning to the DRC, formally known as Zaire. He then returned to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1990 as a Hubert Humphrey Fellow to pursue studies and practical training for two years and returned again to DRC.
The clinical staff are well-trained and dedicated people who possess compassion; especially for the poor, elderly, and children; as well as for those who come to the clinic seeking a variety of medical services. There is also a Chaplain on staff who is there to provide comfort and support to patients, their families and others who need spiritual guidance and support. The above mentioned services are just a few of the reasons why people from various regions come to Polyclinique Esperantia & Fraternité for their medical needs. However, we could not accomplish these tasks and services without the support of the Association Entraid – ASAREB. We are seeking additional U. S. partnerships in order to continue to provide these valuable services. These partnerships will help supplement what is currently being provided.
